At JWP we call this cheek our Salinas, but many of you know it as a NEVADA cheek. You can call it whatever you want, it is the second most popular cheek design that we build on. This version has been done in steel, with Sterling Silver sections overlaid on that steel base. The edges are given a wide stripe effect as has the slobber bar. A loose jawed bit, with plenty of style and function all in one piece. The engraving for this particular bit is all relieved background and single point cutting style, then antiqued to bring out the depth of the work., a delicate little piece of engraving on the inside of each cheek, and top it all of with a deep hot blue finish makes for a striking bit. This is a cheek design that I started building almost 28 years ago, and I made a bunch in the day when I built custom gear. It is basically a Santa Barbara configuration, but with a slight twist in that we opted for an OVAL element as our cheek center. The whole cheek is only 7.125 lenth and requires a little deeper slobber bar in order to clear that bottom jaw properly, hence the deeper bar. MAny of the bits we build have the FROG mouth in it, all because we get some many calls back from folks who tell us how much they just love it. The cheeks are overlaid with sterling sections, and done in a fine English Scroll engraving pattern which has been darkened to bring out the smallest of details. The stripes around the edges are done in the classic narrow pattern, very time consuming. The entire cheek has been given our traditional Highland Grey finish..........a great looking bit.................and a great functioning bit.. FOR SALE AS OF JULY 20TH - 2010

There are many versions of the venerable Santa Susanna, and no matter who comes up with one they are all pretty, just classic. This is the most time consuming cheek pattern to build in our roster of cheek styles that we do here at JWP. And hence the higher price for this bit. So many little detials that make this cheek so unique. OUrs is done in Sterling sections, with plenty of Sterling capped beads to dress things up. The mouth is our 3" tall Sea-Shell Spade, which has proven to not only popular, but folks just like the look of it as well. The edges have been narrow striped, and the overall finish is a deep hot blue with a triple slobber chain bottom. Rien chains are not included with this bit. Even if you cant rope to save your sorry butt...............this bit will get you plenty of compliments and most likley invited back.........just cause you showed good taste. I have always liked the Tapia style, it is very delicate and involved when it comes to the making. Our Tapia, which is brand new to us in the last 3 months, is done with wide stripes on the edges, and we have hot blued the cheeks. The silver is done in overlaid sections and on each cheek there is plenty of pierced work which Tapia done lots of. This bit was given a historically correct mouth, meaning that it has an old time Half Breed mouth, which by the way does just just to this day with horsemen across the west. No, I am a common fellow like you. This is my first cheek in that I drew this Santa Barbara and then went from there with building it. I have made these cheeks in Stainless and given the a full Sterling overlay with western bright cut engraving..............they look stunning. The cheeks have been done up with a triple chain bottom and a half breed mouthpiece. The rien chains are not included on this bit, just like all the others I am posting tonight, mainly because some folks want them and some do not. Here is another of our Oval Santa Barbara cheeks designs. This one is done with wide striped edges, and sterling overlaid sections. We executed tight single point engraving and done a hot oven brozing for the cheek coloration. The 3" tall Spanish Spade mouth has a delicate inlaid pattern on its front side, and copper wrapped braces...............this mouthpiece is so sweet, even the cowboy can taste it!! The bit design is finished up with a matching slobber bar bottom on it, but this does not include the rien chains. You can have us add a rien chain pattern that you chosse if you want.. We call this hceek pattern the Freno, and many others do as well here in California. This cheek was also very popular with one of the bitmaking greats of California, a fellow by the name of Abbey Hunt. This is a steel cheek, with planty of beveling to remove wight in just the right places, we then full silver mounted the cheeks. The engraving is a unique method of bright cuts, that create shiny ridges and yet scrolls are visible....then we cut a nice detail in the cheek center and pierced that to make it really stand out. We choose the Salinas mouth our #19, many folks have been asking for a few bits made with this mouth, so here is one for you Cow-Lectors. By golly, take a look at those chains done in steel and stainless inter-links. I am for sale, and many a horse with a bad head would be improved with a bit such as this.

I am sold, but still worth being shown off since I am sort'a pretty. We call this cheek pattern the Los Gatos, which is just a nice spanish sounding name and better than Dubrovnikov. The Los Gatos is a modified Santa Barbara cheek, a little less wieght at the center, and refined top and bottom is all. We chose to overlay this bit in section with Sterling Silver, the cutting is very traditional bright cut type. The edges have been given the wide silver stripe effect, there is a small engraving detail on the inside of each cheek. The slobber bar matches the rest of the bit with stripes as well. The rien chains are also a new pattern, this is the first bit we put them on. I sold for $1225.00 before I was finished. And I promise if you cant catch yer butt with both hands in the branding trap............and you fall off just trying to mount up.............this bit will get you invited back just cause its so pretty.
